Description
The Kettlebell WODbook is for athletes and coaches who have mastered the basic kettlebell movements as presented in the CrossFit Kettlebell Trainers Course, Jeff’s Tactical Athlete Kettlebell Instructor Certification, or in Jeff’s book Kettlebell RX: The Complete Guide for Athletes and Coaches and instructional video Beyond the American Swing.
The Kettlebell WODbook is a comprehensive training journal to track your progress. The exercises are sequenced from simple to complex, basic to advanced, GPP to SPP with appropriate kettlebell WODs and programming at every level in between.
Please note: The Kettlebell WODbook is NOT a comprehensive instructional “how-to” manual. If you are unfamiliar with some of the exercises in this book, find a competent kettlebell coach, attend a kettlebell trainers course, or pick up a copy of Kettlebell RX: The Complete Guide for Athletes and Coaches. Kettlebell RX contains more than a thousand color photos demonstrating proper technique, teaching sequences and how to detect and correct common errors.
REVIEWS
“Well it seems like Jeff hit the nail on the head again. When I first received Jeff’s last book Kettlebell RX, I thought he had put together one of the more comprehensive material pieces available for those looking to expand their knowledge on Kettlebells. But I have to say the new Jeff Martone’s Kettlebell WODbook expands even further on the material of Kettlebell RX. These books completely compliment each other and any Strength and Conditioning facilty or CrossFit Affiliate owner could greatly enhance their knowledge through picking up the new WODbook along with Kettlebell RX.”

“The Man” has done it again! By that I mean Jeff Martone, Kettlebell expert and Master of Sport, has produced a workout journal that not only compliments his “Kettlebell RX’ book but enhances all the training from it. “Kettlebell WODbook” is a new journal that provides a coach or athlete a variety of ways to implement the Kettlebell into their programming and also helps achieve mastery of the skills learned in the “Kettlebell RX” book or the skills learned from a qualified trainer.
The Kettlebell WODbook opens up to a pretty interesting introduction. Actually, it sounds more like a challenge… Coach is basically, reminding the community that the Kettlebell is just as important to a fitness program as any other commonly used tool. In Fact, he states (paraphrased), “I am amazed at the increased popularity and creative use of the Kettlebell image upon apparel, banners, box logos and promotional materials… but they are often overlooked in programming” I could not agree more! Then he goes on to explain all the benefits in training with a Kettlebell and reinforces his point by explaining the importance of mastering the basics and having a sound program to achieve optimal results. Then he adds a fantastic CrossFit Journal piece by Coach Greg Glassman, that explains what is often overlook in many facilities in our community, VIRTUOSITY, “performing the common, uncommonly well.”
The Journal then moves on to the meat of its purpose, logging in goals, workouts and achievements. The cool thing is that not only can you log in your personal programming, but Coach Martone put in a ton of Kettlebell workouts into the journal that you can do. Since Coach always prioritizes safety and efficiency, he briefly introduces the standards of all the movements in the WODbook. Though it is not as comprehensive as “Kettlebell RX,” which goes into error detection/correction and other movements, the journal gives you all the necessary points to understanding the concepts of the movements.
Coach Martone’s Kettlebell WODbook, provides many General Physical Preparation (GPP) workouts throughout the book, mainly in form of common “named” CrossFit WOD’s and some other formats, such as, the Tabata Protocol. Then he goes on and explains that there is a sport of Kettlebell lifting (SPP) called Kettlebell Sport. I really enjoyed this part, because I myself am a KB sport athlete and understand the difficulty of the sport and the importance of the skills that can be transferred to other modalities. Coach not only explains those benefits, but goes on to provide a program in some of the events of the sport. He also provides ranking tables, so that people can have an understanding of how they compare to sport athletes or more importantly, to have athletes using the book set goals.
Overall, this journal is great! It gives the reader the guidance to introduce proper programming of the Kettlebell to their training. It challenges the community to take the Kettlebell “beyond the swing.” It provides a template for what Coach Glassman preaches, “Learn and play new sports.” If you are a coach or athlete, the Kettlebell WODbook is a must have for both personal use and your library. If you want to take your program to a different level, then get this journal and start swinging!”

I’m PSYCHED about Jeff’s new Kettlebell WODbook. I’ve practiced three of his workouts in the past week, and am VERY satisfied with the results.
Who is this WODbook for? Coaches and athletes who are excited about Kettlebells, and want to take their KB training to a higher level.
Did you attend one of Jeff’s KB courses? Did you read his book,Kettlebell RX? Did you return to your gym excited about KB training, but still wanting more ideas on the specifics of how to train yourself and/or others? Then this WODbook is for you!
In the first section of the book, he gives you a brief review of 26 basic KB movements (most of which were covered in his seminar and book in more detail). Nothing new here. But what IS new, is that he ends each description with a list of WOD ideas. There must be over a hundred workout ideas to help you incorporate various KB movements into your programming. That alone is a great resource.
The second section of this book is dedicated to helping someone coach or train for competing in KB Sport. If you, or someone you’re coaching, is passionate about KB training, this second section will give you a blueprint on how to train for KB Sport. The goal in KB Sport would be a ten-minute set (without setting the KB(s) down), as many reps as possible, for Snatch, Jerks, or the Long Cycle (Clean & Jerks). Even if you’re not training for KB Sport, there would be some great WODs here for a CF Box, to be thrown in from time to time in your programming.
I believe that if someone can train in KB Sport at a high level, his/her strength and conditioning would go through the roof! Don’t believe me? Try one of the workouts in the “Long Cycle 12-week Program.” I would compare it to doing Fran once, waiting five minutes, then doing Fran again. Then doing a tough “Chipper,” and then running 2-3 km. Have plenty of Gatorade on hand, ‘cuz you’re going to sweat buckets! One RX workout will turn you into a fanatical believer!
If you haven’t been to one of his seminars, go! MANY people have taken his course and then commented that it was the best one they’ve ever taken. If you haven’t read his book, Kettlebell RX, buy it! It’s the best instructional book out there for KB training. And if you want a simple, concise, straight forward manual for KB training and programming, buy this book!
