Double  Honor for these Mothers

Many of us tenderly acknowledge the unconditional love, unwavering dedication, and endless support our mothers have provided over our lifetime by blessing Mom with beautiful flowers, breakfast in bed, dinner at her favorite restaurant, or showering her with gifts.  A holiday established to honor and celebrate mothers is, indeed, appropriate.  This year, however, I felt compelled to do a little research…

As I learned about the original purpose and history leading up to the first Mother’s Day, I discovered an additional intent:  to honor mothers who had lost or were at risk of losing their sons (or daughters) in war.  If you are a mother who has experienced this type of deep grief, I compassionately wish you double blessings & double honor this Mother’s Day.  Let joyful memories of the past and the comfort that only God can provide encourage you this day.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5    … the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort which we ourselves are comforted by God.  For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.

I’ll be praying for you today…
